With Memorial Day just passing, it's nice to keep our Active Duty, Service Members & Veterans at the top of our mind- as well as their housing needs.
This week, to continue to honor of these individuals, we wanted to share a survey conducted in 2018 by the National Association of Realtors (R) (NAR) of an infographic about the home buying habits of this honorable group.
A Key Military Difference
There are several key points of interest, one being that there is a significant difference between non-military utilization of a zero percent down home loans and Active Duty and Veteran usage. While a zero percent down loan is not the best option for everyone, we see 56% of Active Duty personnel and 41% of Veterans using a zero percent down home loan option. Clearly, we can see that this product serves a need in the marketplace- and I am glad that such a program exists for these members.
Another interesting finding of this survey is that a majority of Active Military and Veterans who have purchased a home have stayed within the same state as their current home- and a larger percentage of these individuals have stayed within the same region, even more so than non-military homebuyers!
For eligible military members, a zero-percent loan can be an excellent benefit, allowing many members to be able to purchase a home, where they might not have been able to otherwise.
